HISTORY

Painting Department, which began its education in 1957 at the "State School of Applied Fine Arts" under the name "Department of Decorative Painting" joined Marmara University in 1982 and carried on with its education under the name "Department of Painting." In the "Department of Decorative Painting", students primarily studied fresco, sgraffito, relief, and mosaic in the workshops while also receiving instruction on decoration applications in architecture. By focusing on modern uses of the painting medium over time, our department has developed an interdisciplinary understanding of art under the influence of historical and therotical circumstances.

EDUCATION

The Department of Painting seeks to develop artist candidates who can apply their creativity to a variety of fields, come up with novel ideas and expressions, and actively participate in culture and the arts in the social and technological contexts of today.

The department employs a curriculum that fosters each student's unique creativity, analytical abilities, and critical perspective.

The department's educational program consists of studio courses where both individual and group studies are conducted, as well as additional practical and theoretical courses that run concurrently with these courses. Conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and applications all support our programs, which prioritize experimental research. Every semester, our department hosts visits from artists and curators and offers opportunities for interaction with the art world.

The structure of the Painting Department's educational strategy promotes experimentation with various media and the development of novel expressions.

Graduates of our department take active roles in shaping the field of contemporary art by taking an effective participation in artistic activities and researches in Turkey and around the world.
